The Founding
The house was founded in the same year as Piper-Heidsieck.
In the spring of 1834, in the Champagne, a small négoce-récoltant maison opened its doors. The same year, Piper-Heidsieck was founded in Reims.
The house was modest. A two-storey stone façade, a black-and-gold sign above the door, an inner courtyard into which casks could roll. The labels of those years were sober: Lecureux & Cie. · Champagne. No crest. No Latin. Just three words.
It is a truth of Champagne that great houses are founded out of small ones. Not every small house grows great. Some only grow long.
